PEACOCKS NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2015.

Happy New year to you all.

2014 has been a very difficult year for the Club with the sad passing of Art Day and Gerry Wilson, both have put tremendous effort into the club. Art a Bracebridge Heath stalwart, player, committee, Chairman and President. Gerry joined forces with Art in 1997 to merge Claytons CC, the club changed out of all recognition and has not looked back. It is testament to the two of them that Bracebridge Heath Cricket Club has become a leading force in Lincolnshire cricket. Their hard work behind the scenes was not always recognised and has left a massive void that has been difficult to fill. They will be greatly missed. To compound our troubles our wonderful Treasurer Sue Cook has been out of action for most of the year, she has all our very best wishes.

At the beginning of the year we planned an ambitious programme of much needed fundraising, fun day, beer festival, sportsman’s dinner, match sponsor days alongside our already successful golf day, BBQ, race night, raffle etc. We also expanded our sponsorship with packages and advertising.

Fortunately we have a superb committees and with the help of some wonderful members we survived by the skin of our teeth.

We do still need to move forward with our fundraising, the nets are in need of some urgent attention, the tarpaulin covers are ready for replacingand the clubhouse is beginning to look tired. We are reinvesting to support our cricket activities, the junior section has turned around with tremendous passion from Jeanette Holden and Rachel Moor. We have seen a substantial increase in new members and the amount of youngsters enjoying the game. To continue this progression we hope that more members and parents will join us to spread the workload.

We have recognised that the management of the club is too onerous for the Main Committee to cope with all the business in one meeting each month. The Chairman, with the agreement of the Main Committee, wishes to restructure the management of the Club into several sub-committees.

It is proposed to split the business into the following sub-committees:-

Pavilion Management to deal with cleaning, maintenance and tea rotas and other food items.

Bar to deal with stocking of bar, cleaning it all, rota of helpers serving behind bar.

Sponsorship and advertising – to produce fixture book, boards and sponsor packages.

Fund-raising – sorting out yearly events and arranging help at functions etc.

Junior Section – this is already in place with all managers and coaches.

Cricket committee – team selection, recruitment, coaching and clothing.

Each of these committees will include one or more of the elected committee members from the AGM but we are urgently looking for more volunteers to come on board to spread the workload. It is not intended for these committees to meet monthly but as and when required to deal with their business. Notes or minutes from these sub-committee meetings will then go to an Executive Committee, who will meet monthly, to be approved and adopted. Hopefully by breaking it down into bite size chunks we will have members that can help in areas they feel confident or have expertise. If every member volunteered to help with just one event or area, it would be of great assistance. Whether it be helping out on a tea, a bar duty, hosting a match sponsors day, cleaning the clubhouse or help organising a fundraising event. Many hands make light work.

Please don’t be shy, have a think and put yourself forward for your ‘one duty’.We have a wonderful club and have the potential to make it even better to sustain it for generations to come. Contact our Secretary, Chairman, committee member or Junior Manager to put your name forward or if you require more information.
